Support and Advice For Men {15 Jan 2012}
|
Men experiencing domestic abuse now have a helpline aimed specifically at supporting them, the helpline was launched in June. It is provided by North Derbyshire Domestic Abuse Outreach Services. During office hours they can be contacted on telephone number 01246 551889, and out of hours on 0800 019 8668,
The Derbyshire Support and Advice for Men helpline, SAM, is tailored to helping men who are being abused by someone close to them, for example their partner, a parent, a sibling or other family member.
Keeping children safe, housing and financial issues will be just three areas where trained staff will be able to help, as well as helping men to get involved in their community and find further education, training and employment, in some cases.
"Generally it is understood that many men prefer to communicate by phone, text and email, to get information and guidance for something specific and through SAM they will be able to do that.”
As well as this service, there will also be a website and men will be able to text and email for help if they prefer doing this rather than seeking face-to-face advice.

Tottenham Hotspurs striker Jermain Defoe, Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder, DJ Reggie Yates and pop stars Westlife are the latest start to stand up against violence against women and support the 'Real Man' Campaign for 2011.
Violence against women and children is an issue for everyone. Globally at least one in three women and girls suffers domestic abuse in her lifetime. The Women's Aid Federation of England want 10,000 men and women to pledge to stand up against domestic and sexual violence by 25th November 2011 - the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women.
